Despite the government's efforts to quash the rumors, my writing skills are, in fact, the result of an encounter with aliens.
Angels' Bane
There’s a cliché out there that suggests that every copywriter has a draft of a novel that sits there, dreaming futile dreams of the day when it escapes from its desk drawer becomes a bestseller.
I’m sorry, cliché, but I just blasted you to pieces with lasers from my mind. My pet project over the last few months has been writing, publishing, and promoting my novel Angels’ Bane. It’s a science fiction epic that combines elements of space opera and Christian mythology, like a strange but self-assured lovechild of Star Wars and Paradise Lost.
The book will be available mid-February 2012.
After ascertaining the costs necessary to self-publish a professional-looking product, I turned to Kickstarter.com to raise the funds. I made ads and a group on Facebook, then created a trailer for the novel featuring original character and location sketches. Though family and friends were happy to chip in, many of the backers on Kickstarter were people I’d never met, including sci-fi lovers from Germany and Australia. After I amassed the required money, the time came to put the broad range of my skills to use. I edited the text and designed the cover myself. The novel will be followed by press releases and further promotional materials.
